Bungie has continually used each weekend of Destiny 2's Season of the Lost to try different things with their ultimate PvP activity, Trials of Osiris. After a record first week of the gameplay, Bungie implemented a flawless matchmaking group that kicks in when players go flawless.
Bungie also held a Trials Labs weekend in which they introduced a capture point in Trials Elimination mode. These Labs modes are meant to be just that, experiments in which Bungie collects data and feedback from the community on the different variations they test in Trials of Osiris. This weekend, Destiny 2s Trials Labs will feature a freelance queue that allows solo players to team up with and against other solo players. In theory, this means that it would be easier for players without teams to find success or even go flawless without the worry of playing pre-made teams of three. Previously, Bungie implemented a separate option for Iron Banner, the games' other PvP activity, and that change has been widely applauded.
Prior to Destiny 2's Season of the Lost, such a change would have been unthinkable, but now that Trials of Osiris matches players without the need to search for groups beforehand this weekend, the labs are not far behind. is offered in the game. Solo players could already join Trials of Osiris before this Labs event, but now the path to perfection for them should be more accessible than ever. After this weekend, it's unclear if the Labs event will return as a permanent fixture of the game mode, as Bungie is likely cautious about dividing the player base between two different matchmaking groups. The weekly Bungies blog also featured the Trials of Osiris rotation map for the weekends. "I heard our setting this week is a bit creepy.
Be careful when you open the doors," said Dylan Gafner, Bungie Community Manager. All signs point to the map being Cauldron, the only map in the game with doors that open when players approach them. If that wasn't enough, the map certainly fits into the creepy category, as it's set on the moon with intense Hive architecture. Of course, there is the possibility that the featured map is not Caldero, as Gafner left room for interpretation with his words. Whatever the case, Trials of Osiris launches Friday at Noon Central Time, and will run through Tuesday on the weekly reset.
